DAY 05

January 31, 2019

Mook, the Thai representative for Mathematics was the one assigned to teach the grade 7 class.

Still, Ms. Hani had to attend a workshop, so we recorded our teachings instead.

I noticed that it was a little hard for her to deliver her sentences well, and it was hard for one of the students to understand her because he could not understand english too well.

They were a little bit quiet, I am not really sure if that is due to them being a small class (only 3 students) or because they are shy of their new teacher. But either way, at the end of the day, I think Mook was able to create a comfortable atmosphere among the students and herself.

After the grade 7 class that morning, we taught the grade 9 class in the afternoon.

The grade 9 class was the complete opposite of the grade 7 class. They were very interactive, very smart, and very good in speaking english.

For me, a good student-teacher relationship is the key to a successful and harmonious school community.

Today, not only did I notice that the teachers have good relationships with each other, but the teachers have very well relationships with the students as well.

I just love the sound of laughter in the office when they are joking around.

In the Institute of Teaching and Learning (in PNU – Philippine Normal University), the motto is: HAPPY TEACHERS, HAPPY LEARNERS.

The same with my perception here, once the teachers have already built good friendships, there is no reason for them not to build happy friendships with the students.

I saw that the students give respect to their teachers, but treat them as older family members as well.

I hope it could be the same in the Philippines ☹

Maybe it is a factor that teachers from different subject areas share the same office.

Because in the Philippines, Math teachers have their own Math faculty room, English teachers have their English faculty room, etc.

Mook and I had good experiences in teaching today, I noticed that the grade 9 students really like to solve problems.

I think I need to increase the level of difficulty for the next activities!
