Final Day : Day 12

FEBRUARY 14, 2019

My last day of teaching!

Since yesterday, I am still at awe that this will be my last day to ride the school bus of SMP Pelita Nusantara.

I feel that I am not yet ready to let go.

I feel that I want to stay even just a little bit longer.

I feel that I want to spend a little more time with them, it breaks my heart to celebrate valentines’ day today – because this day will be filled with love and heartaches.

I started the day with my final demonstration for grade 8.

I believe my demonstration went well, although I made a minor mistake.

Then, I went on to teach the class that Mook left – the grade 7 class.

It was fun because they were very friendly and can easily follow the discussion. I discussed ratio and proportion with them. 😊

The last class for the day was the grade 9 Cambridge Mathematics class.

It was my last day to teach them, I have prepared many activities for them to engage on.

I am very lucky to have Ms. Hani as my cooperating teacher. She is very kind and thoughtful.

She gave me bread when she found-out that I haven’t taken breakfast yet, she also prepared food for my mentor that morning.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for all her efforts that day – this is one reason why it was so hard for me to say good bye as well.

My examination went well, I think.

Thanks to my active students, I was able to complete all the tasks and objectives I had for that day. Even on my normal teaching days, I already use Indonesian words when I teach, only a few, such as numbers and operation terms: satu, dua, tiga, tambah, kali, bagi, kurang… and more.

This is why I used Indonesian terms while I taught on my examination (hehe).

I made a mistake, my mentor even sent me the picture of the error that I made. Yet, it was weird because I even laughed my mistake off.

My mentor and cooperating teacher were very considerate and were very kind when they told me that it happens all the time.

I really appreciate how they told me that to relieve me from my embarrassment and disappointment.

After my grade 8 examination, I went on to teach the grade 7 class for the first and last time. They were active and smart as well, however, Gray did not understood me well because the other two students told me, he could not understand english well. But, Priscilla and Deva helped me so that Gray could grasp the ideas, too.

The girls (from grade 7 and 8) and I went to the canteen for the first time, to eat my last nasi goreng in indonesia. How ironic…

Then, for my last class with the grade 9 students, I prepared a lot of practice questions for them to answer. It was overwhelming and a little bit surprising that they got to answer ALL the questions correctly and on time.

We got to finish the last topics for Chapter 9 that time, and it was also time to give my farewell gifts to them.
